CFO Moves this week include:
AMD (NYSE: AMD) announced that it has appointed Devinder Kumar as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Kumar has been interim CFO since September 2012. He served as corporate controller of the company since 2001 and as senior vice president since 2006.
Vail Resorts, Inc. (NYSE: MTN) appointed Mark L. Schoppet as Interim Chief Financial Officer upon the previously announced retirement of Jeffrey W. Jones, the Company’s Chief Financial Officer and President — Lodging, Retail and Real Estate. Mr. Schoppet will also continue in his role as Senior Vice President, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer. Mr. Schoppet was appointed Senior Vice President, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer of the Company in April 2010. He previously served as Vice President, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer from October 2008 to April 2010 and as Vice President and Controller from November 2005 to October 2008. Before joining the Company as a consultant in 2004, Mr. Schoppet was Managing Partner of the Little Rock, Arkansas office of Arthur Andersen LLP and has more than 20 years of public accounting experience.
Best Buy Co., Inc. director Matthew H. Paull announced his intent to retire from the Board effective April 20, 2013, following the quarterly Board meetings. From 2001 until he retired in 2008, Mr. Paull served as corporate senior executive vice president and chief financial officer for McDonald’s Corporation. Also, director George L. Mikan III tendered a letter to the Board stating that he was resigning from the Board, effective immediately. Mr. Mikan notified the Board that he had accepted a position as president of ESL Investments, Inc., and that, due to his new responsibilities and time requirements, he believed it was necessary to step down from the registrant’s Board. Mike formerly served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of UnitedHealth Group Incorporated and chief executive officer of Optum, an affiliate of UnitedHealth.
ESL Investments said that it has named G. Mike Mikan as president. Mr. Mikan held various executive positions over a 14-year period at UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH), including serving as executive vice president and chief financial officer, as well as chief executive officer of its Optum subsidiary. Mr. Mikan has served on the Board of Directors of Best Buy Co. (NYSE: BBY) since 2008. He was appointed Best Buy’s interim chief executive in April 2012, serving until September 2012.
Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS) announced the appointment of Chris E. Perkins to serve as its Senior Vice President, Finance & Administration and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective February 1, 2013. Upon appointment as CFO, Mr. Perkins will replace Melissa H. Cruz, who previously informed the company of her intention to retire, although Ms. Cruz will remain with the company for a limited period of time thereafter to assist with the transition. Prior to joining Progress, Perkins served as CFO at Eclipsys Corporation, and Per-Se Technologies. At both Per-Se and at Emageon, Inc., Mr. Perkins also served as the Chief Operating Officer.
Beacon Roofing Supply, Inc. (NASDAQ: BECN) announced the appointment of Rick Welker, Vice President & Chief Accounting Officer, as Acting Chief Financial Officer. The Company’s former CFO, David Grace, retired on December 31, 2012. Mr. Welker joined Beacon as Corporate Controller in July 2004, prior to the Company’s IPO, and was promoted to Vice President in February 2006 and to Chief Accounting Officer in November 2011. Prior to joining Beacon, Mr. Welker had previous public company experience and held the following executive positions: Senior Vice President-CFO & Secretary of rue21; Vice President-CFO & Treasurer of Woodworkers Warehouse; and Vice President & Controller of Bradlees Department Stores.

Prior to the acquisition by Alcon, Ms. Thunen served as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Operations at that company since 2009. Coverity Inc. announced the appointment of Fred Gerson , Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the San Diego Padres, to its board of directors as Chairman of the board’s Audit Committee. Gerson is currently on the board of directors of Major League Baseball’s captive insurance entity and is director and chair of the audit committee of Infoblox. He also serves on the boards of Klever Logic and Authentify Inc. Gerson was previously director and chairman of the audit committee of DivX Inc. until its acquisition in 2010. Gerson has been with the San Diego Padres since 2001. He began his career at Ernst & Young as an audit manager and has subsequently led successful initial public offerings as the CFO of Maxis Inc. and Marimba Inc., which was acquired by BMC Software. Gerson also served as CFO of the Coin-Operated Games Division of Atari Inc. and Peter Norton Computing Inc., which was acquired by Symantec.
WilsonHCG announced the recent hire of Andrew Zahn, who joined the WilsonHCG team as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer. Zahn joins the WilsonHCG team after nearly a decade of experience as the Managing Director of a boutique advisory and consulting practice headquartered in Tampa, Florida.
DDR Corp. (NYSE: DDR) announced that senior executive vice president and chief financial officer David J. Oakes has been named president of the Company. Mr. Oakes will remain chief financial officer of DDR, and continues to report to Daniel B. Hurwitz, DDR’s chief executive officer. Mr. Oakes joined DDR as executive vice president of finance and chief investment officer in April 2007. He was promoted to senior executive vice president of finance and chief investment officer in December 2008, and chief financial officer in February 2010. Prior to joining DDR, Mr. Oakes served as senior vice president and portfolio manager at Cohen & Steers Capital Management.
MHI Hospitality Corporation (NASDAQ: MDH) announced that William J. Zaiser, MHI’s Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and corporate Secretary, retired from the Company as of December 31, 2012. Mr. Zaiser will continue to serve as a consultant to the Company. Following Mr. Zaiser’s retirement, MHI’s Board of Directors appointed Anthony E. Domalski as Chief Financial Officer. Zafgen, Inc. announced the appointment of Patricia Allen to the position of Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Allen succeeds Matthias Jaffe. For the past two years, Allen has provided independent consulting services to biotechnology companies in a variety of areas, including interim CFO services, fundraising, deal structures, financial planning, organizational structure, investor relations and business development. Previously, Ms. Allen served as the Vice President of Finance, Treasurer and Principal Financial Officer of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals. Coinstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSTR) appointed J. Scott Di Valerio, currently Coinstar’s chief financial officer, as the company’s next chief executive officer, effective April 1, 2013. Di Valerio was also appointed to the Coinstar Board of Directors effective at that time. Di Valerio will succeed Paul Davis , 55, who is retiring on March 31, 2013. Di Valerio has served as Coinstar’s CFO since 2010. Prior to joining Coinstar, Di Valerio served as president of the Americas for the Lenovo Group Limited and held senior positions at Microsoft Corp., including corporate vice president of Microsoft’s OEM division and corporate vice president of finance and administration. Previously, Di Valerio served in management positions at The Walt Disney Company and Mindwave Software Inc., and as a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Coinstar also announced that Galen C. Smith , senior vice president of finance at Redbox Automated Retail, LLC, Coinstar’s wholly-owned subsidiary, will succeed Di Valerio as chief financial officer. Smith joined Coinstar in 2009 and has served in his current role leading the finance function at Redbox since 2011, and prior as corporate VP, finance and treasurer for Coinstar. Prior to joining Coinstar, Smith was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley in the Consumer and Retail Investment Banking Group.
Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, announced that W. Ron Hinson, previously chief accounting officer and comptroller will become executive vice president, chief financial officer, treasurer and comptroller. Hinson joined Georgia Power in 1979 as an accounting associate. During his 27 years with Georgia Power, Hinson held numerous positions in the corporate accounting organization, including serving as vice president and comptroller. He was elected to his most recent position with Southern Company in 2006.
SIFCO Industries, Inc. (NYSE: SIF) announced that it has named Catherine (Kate) Kramer as its Chief Financial Officer. Kramer replaces former CFO Frank Cappello. Ms. Kramer was previously Director of Financial Planning and Analysis at the Company. CIFC Corp. (NASDAQ: DFR) (“CIFC”) announced that Rahul Agarwal joined as Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Agarwal brings 19 years of financial industry experience, having spent the last 8 years with The Blackstone Group L.P. (“Blackstone”), where he served as the Co-Head of Finance for the Private Equity business. Before joining Blackstone, Mr. Agarwal held positions at Deloitte & Touche, Citigroup and Ernst & Young.
Coverity Inc. announced the appointment of Fred Gerson , Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the San Diego Padres, to its board of directors as Chairman of the board’s Audit Committee. Gerson is currently on the board of directors of Major League Baseball’s captive insurance entity and is director and chair of the audit committee of Infoblox. He also serves on the boards of Klever Logic and Authentify Inc. Gerson was previously director and chairman of the audit committee of DivX Inc. until its acquisition in 2010. Gerson has been with the San Diego Padres since 2001. He began his career at Ernst & Young as an audit manager and has subsequently led successful initial public offerings as the CFO of Maxis Inc. and Marimba Inc., which was acquired by BMC Software. Gerson also served as CFO of the Coin-Operated Games Division of Atari Inc. and Peter Norton Computing Inc., which was acquired by Symantec.
WilsonHCG announced the recent hire of Andrew Zahn, who joined the WilsonHCG team as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer. Zahn joins the WilsonHCG team after nearly a decade of experience as the Managing Director of a boutique advisory and consulting practice headquartered in Tampa, Florida.
DDR Corp. (NYSE: DDR) announced that senior executive vice president and chief financial officer David J. Oakes has been named president of the Company. Mr. Oakes will remain chief financial officer of DDR, and continues to report to Daniel B. Hurwitz, DDR’s chief executive officer. Mr. Oakes joined DDR as executive vice president of finance and chief investment officer in April 2007. He was promoted to senior executive vice president of finance and chief investment officer in December 2008, and chief financial officer in February 2010. Prior to joining DDR, Mr. Oakes served as senior vice president and portfolio manager at Cohen & Steers Capital Management.
MHI Hospitality Corporation (NASDAQ: MDH) announced that William J. Zaiser, MHI’s Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and corporate Secretary, retired from the Company as of December 31, 2012. Mr. Zaiser will continue to serve as a consultant to the Company. Following Mr. Zaiser’s retirement, MHI’s Board of Directors appointed Anthony E. Domalski as Chief Financial Officer. Zafgen, Inc. announced the appointment of Patricia Allen to the position of Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Allen succeeds Matthias Jaffe. For the past two years, Allen has provided independent consulting services to biotechnology companies in a variety of areas, including interim CFO services, fundraising, deal structures, financial planning, organizational structure, investor relations and business development. Previously, Ms. Allen served as the Vice President of Finance, Treasurer and Principal Financial Officer of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals. Ms. Allen also served as the Corporate Controller and eventually the Director of Finance at Alkermes, Inc.
ADVENTRX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE: ANX) announced the appointment of Brandi L. Roberts to Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President. She had served as the Company’s vice president, finance since March 2011. Prior to joining ADVENTRX, from January 2009 to March 2011, Ms. Roberts served as vice president, accounting and corporate controller of Alphatec Spine, Inc., the wholly-owned operating subsidiary of Alphatec Holdings, Inc. Ms. Roberts’ experience also includes seven years at Pfizer’s laboratories in La Jolla, California (formerly Agouron), most recently as director, finance, and three years with the public accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Ms. Roberts currently serves as co-chair of the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Bioscience Financial Officers.
Coinstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSTR) appointed J. Scott Di Valerio, currently Coinstar’s chief financial officer, as the company’s next chief executive officer, effective April 1, 2013. Di Valerio was also appointed to the Coinstar Board of Directors effective at that time. Di Valerio will succeed Paul Davis , 55, who is retiring on March 31, 2013. Di Valerio has served as Coinstar’s CFO since 2010. Prior to joining Coinstar, Di Valerio served as president of the Americas for the Lenovo Group Limited and held senior positions at Microsoft Corp., including corporate vice president of Microsoft’s OEM division and corporate vice president of finance and administration. Previously, Di Valerio served in management positions at The Walt Disney Company and Mindwave Software Inc., and as a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Coinstar also announced that Galen C. Smith , senior vice president of finance at Redbox Automated Retail, LLC, Coinstar’s wholly-owned subsidiary, will succeed Di Valerio as chief financial officer. Smith joined Coinstar in 2009 and has served in his current role leading the finance function at Redbox since 2011, and prior as corporate VP, finance and treasurer for Coinstar. Prior to joining Coinstar, Smith was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley in the Consumer and Retail Investment Banking Group.
Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, announced that W. Ron Hinson, previously chief accounting officer and comptroller will become executive vice president, chief financial officer, treasurer and comptroller. Hinson joined Georgia Power in 1979 as an accounting associate. During his 27 years with Georgia Power, Hinson held numerous positions in the corporate accounting organization, including serving as vice president and comptroller. He was elected to his most recent position with Southern Company in 2006.
SIFCO Industries, Inc. (NYSE: SIF) announced that it has named Catherine (Kate) Kramer as its Chief Financial Officer. Kramer replaces former CFO Frank Cappello. Ms. Kramer was previously Director of Financial Planning and Analysis at the Company. Prior to joining the Company, Ms. Kramer served as Managing Director (2009 – 2012) and Vice President of Strategic Planning (2007 – 2009) at Greenstar Capital LLC. Her previous roles include Vice President of Corporate Strategic Planning (2005 – 2007) and Manager of Finance and Business Development (2001 – 2005) at Argo-Tech Corporation.
Discovery Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ: DSCO) announced that John G. Cooper has been named Discovery Labs’ President and CEO and has been elected to the Company’s board of directors. Mr. Cooper served as Discovery Labs’ Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 2002-2010 and was appointed President and CFO in 2010. Mr. Cooper will continue to serve as Discovery Labs’ CFO.Karl Knight
