Toronto Stock Exchange Explores Blockchain Technology, Appoints CDO

TSX appoints blockchain expert chief digital officer.

The Toronto Stock Exchange has become the latest bourse to recognise the potential importance of distributed ledger technology, hiring blockchain specialist Anthony Di Iorio as its chief digital officer.
Di Iorio, who has been a central figure in Canada's Bitcoin and blockchain community, became the digital chief at TSX and parent TMX Group in January, according to his LinkedIn profile.

His appointment will see the Toronto bourse investigate the potential for following the likes of Nasdaq, The Korea Exchange and Australia's ASX in tapping distributed ledger technology to boost efficiency and drive down costs.

"Blockchain is a disruptive technology. We're focused on it, we're going to learn," Jean Desgagne, chief executive, global enterprise services, TMX, told Reuters, although he refused to discuss details.

Di Iorio is the founder of Bitcoin wallet Kryptokit, a co-founder of blockchain platform Ethereum, a founding member of the bitcoin alliance of Canada, and a cryptocurrency advisor to the fintech cluster at Toronto's MaRS innovation hub.
