John Stansfield will join the Banking and Finance team in Moscow. John is due to join the firm as a partner from Linklaters’ where he spent the last two years as a partner in the Banking and Projects team, of their Moscow office, advising major banks and corporates. Prior to this he spent six years in Linklaters’ Frankfurt office as Head of the English Law banking team in Germany and was also based in Moscow with Linklaters from 1998 and 2000. John is a specialist in international banking acting for lenders, borrowers and sponsors on a broad range of syndicated and secured debt products, with a particular emphasis on emerging markets and structured trade and export financing, acquisition finance, real estate financing and restructurings.

Qasim Aslam joins the Dubai office; he has a strong reputation for his experience and expertise in innovative financing structures across Islamic, conventional and multi-sourced financings. He joins from Herbert Smith, where he spent five years in their Dubai office. Qasim’s practice focuses on finance structuring, with an emphasis on Shari'ah compliance, across asset acquisitions, real estate transactions and project finance. Qasim was described as “one of the outstanding practitioners in Islamic Finance” by Guide to the World’s Leading Islamic Finance Practitioners 2010.

Jean-Norbert Pontier has joined the Paris office as Avocat au Barreau de Paris. Jean-Norbert was previously a Partner at Nixon Peabody LLP where he spent four years as Head of European Finance. He has advised many underwriters, arrangers, project finance sponsors, senior and mezzanine lenders, real estate debt funds, rating agencies and originators on venture capital, property financing and refinancing, corporate acquisition, and securitization transactions involving a variety of different underlying assets.
