Award-Winning 'The Snake' Course at Snake River Sporting Club Opens for the 2008 Golf Season

May 15th marked the opening of the 2008 golf season at The Snake course at Snake River Sporting Club, the private, luxury residential sporting community in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Part of the award-winning collection of properties built by international developer, DPS Sporting Club Development Company, LLC., Snake River Sporting Club projects over 1500 rounds of golf will be played on its premiere course this season.

Just recently named number two on Golf Digest Magazine's Best New Private Golf Courses in the U.S., The Snake course spans over 7,500 yards and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Tetons, Teton Valley and canyon. Set up in perfect harmony with the Jackson Hole community, the Tom Weiskopf designed course favors the way traditional golf was meant to be played. Even the use of traditional caddies has created a sense of old-world golf charm at Snake River Sporting Club. All caddies wear traditional caddy uniforms and are trained in the art of caddying; not only carrying bags, but guiding golfers on club choice and hole yardage.

"Caddies are a dying tradition and Snake River Sporting Club is attempting to introduce the golf experience as the way the game was meant to be played," says Matt Fawkes, Director of Golf, Snake River Sporting Club. "Many courses may want the revenues from carts, but Jackson Hole is an active community where members and players like to walk the course to share in its natural beauty, as well as trade secrets and stories with our knowledgeable caddies."

If members aren't up for the walk, The Snake offers 30 golf carts and a specialized, on-site pro-shop. Every member of the Snake River Sporting Club golf staff is either a PGA professional or aspiring to become a professional, so there are always trained, skilled golf professionals on hand.

The Snake course is a geographical masterpiece, surrounded by 3.4 million acres of the stunning Bridger-Teton National Forest and 6 miles of Snake River frontage. Conditions are always perfect and members share a close proximity to local, protected bald eagles, moose and striking Jackson Hole
flora. The course breeds native fescues grasses on its fairways, which turn a stunning gold in the late summer and early fall. Besides the aesthetic perfection of The Snake, the course is also a technical
commodity raising 5,900 feet above sea level. Although a long course, the altitude gives the ball a distance advantage. Legendary course designer, Tom Weiskopf, intended for The Snake to be hallenging, yet each hole offers up to six tees which can be moved independently to a different tee
box dependant on weather conditions. Weiskopf designed the Par 3 holes to test every part of a golfer's iron game. At The Snake, golfers will use every iron in their bag.

"If the Jackson Hole Snake River Sporting Club isn't the best piece of property that I have worked on in the US, it is tied for 1st," says Tom Weiskopf, 'The Snake' Course Designer. "What makes it such a special piece of property is the Snake River, the canyon, the varieties of large, mature trees on site, and the meadow and wetlands areas. I believe it to be my finest golf course design in the US to-date."

The Snake course is family-friendly and offers members an incredible practice facility with chipping bunkers, putting greens and a 380-yard driving range with tees at each end. Building upon the DPS Sporting Club commitment to luxury amenities and superior quality, the course uses Titleist Pro V1 Golf Balls for its range balls. Even practice balls deserve attention to detail! Snake River Sporting Club members are treated to the best that the modern golf world has to offer; PGA professional-trained staff, a full pro-shop offering the latest in golf equipment and clothing, and the best practice facilities, clubs and balls on the market.

"DPS Sporting Club Development Company strives not only to provide the best of the best in the sporting world, but also a beautiful natural environment in which to enjoy them with family and friends," says Steve Schram, Managing Partner, DPS Sporting Club Development Co., LLC. "The Snake course at Snake River Sporting Club is just another example of our commitment and belief in a Life, Well Played."

The official Snake River Sporting Club golf season runs from May 15th - October 15th. We invite you to join us for a round of golf at the award-winning The Snake course in beautiful Jackson Hole!
